Easy Family Halloween Craft

Save Your Cans After Dinner

This craft did take just a bit of planning! With two boys I am constantly looking for ways to help them build things. Boys like to build things 🙂 I am a girl and I like it, so I’m not discounting that, but it doesn’t fulfill me the way that it does them!

Things You Will Need:

  • Aluminum Can(s)
  • Paper
  • Pencil(s)
  • Tape
  • Nail(s)
  • Hammer(s)
  • Flashlight/tea light candle
  • Sharpie

Instructions:

  1. Take the piece of paper and cut it to the width of the can. One piece can do 2 full cans.
  2. Draw your Halloween shape on the piece of paper, knowing that simple is best! These are going to end up being connect the dots looking pictures.
  3. Take your pencil or a pen and puncture holes in the pictures so you know exactly where to put the nails through the can.
  4. Tape the paper onto the can. A 12oz can of cream of chicken (what I used) was almost the perfect width for the 8.5 inches of paper.
  5. Go to a safe workspace… (this is where I think you should find a better way to do this if you have little kids!) We put the cans between our feet and placed a nail over each dot, we hammered the nail into the can and once the hole was completed, you pull the nail out.
  6. Finish your connect the dots!
  7. Put a light into the bottom of the can so you can see everything you designed glow in the dark!

Planning is Different than Hard

Even though this project did take a bit of planning and forethought to prepare for, it was easy and nice for the kids to complete. They enjoyed the steps instead of getting tired of them halfway through!

Art is one of my kids best ways to let off a bit of steam. They love being able to use their hands to create something physical. And let’s face it,

boys love being able to use a hammer.
